The estate owned by George J Mathew and Sons presently manged by Jojo George is one of the finest among cardamom plantations on the hills.
Built in 2005 on a site used for camping by K.V.Mathew who cleared the forest land back in the 1950s the bungalow is unique setting in tune with nature.
This rustic retreat tucked amid a 100-acre cardamom plantation is the secret hideaway of the Pottamkulam family, who congregate here over weekends ‘when they feel like giving the outside world a miss’.
This home is literally built on a rock and takes in the strengths of nature to be its foundation. The unique feature of Mayapott is that it is re-created entirely out of chiseled rock from the region. Not a single rock has been removed from its original position. There are rock protrusions in every room and the en suite bathrooms are all open-to-sky.
A stream, which meanders through the property, appears at one point and mysteriously vanishes at another point. No wonder the place is called Mayapott meaning ‘the mystical point’.
